When you were pregnant did you envisage a tranquil home birth, maybe a water birth, candles lit, soothing music playing, all serene and beautiful?
Was that the reality?
Or was it something completely different.
Maybe you ended up in hospital with male doctors making decisions for you or
you needed to have an emergency caesarean, everybody rushing round you at the last minute.
This takes away all the calm that you'd been trying to cultivate, and sends your nervous system into high alert.
Were there complications? Perhaps you had to have an episiotomy or maybe there were unexpected tears.
Possibly you needed interventions to help to birth the baby?
It may have felt rushed or panicked
Was it a traumatic experience?
Afterwards, you may have found it difficult to bond with your baby
Did you arrive home wondering what on earth had just happened and how would you cope with this tiny helpless human being that doesn't come with instructions?
Maybe you have suffered with post-natal depression.
Have you experienced resentment or even anger towards your partner?
All of these things are real.
And when you think about it, these feelings are all perfectly normal.
The most natural thing that humans are designed to do has been medicalised beyond recognition, often with no thought for the woman who is doing the birthing.
Even without the panic or the doctors, giving birth can be traumatic at the best of times – babies heads are not exactly small, let’s face it !
We are often encouraged to lie down with our legs up - meaning that the baby has to move on an upwards angle without the help of gravity.
We are often hooked up to all kinds of machines, which make it impossible to get up and move about when needed.
It's no wonder it's a struggle.
Then you throw in a Doctor who has no clue what it actually feels like to give birth and treats it like a "procedure" .
It's no wonder your nervous system is on high alert!
And that is without having a cesarean where you get to watch your body being cut open to birth the baby !
It’s not an easy task, there’s a reason it’s called labour!
It’s not easy on the nervous system.
And then there’s the recovery, the realignment of the pelvis.
Your pelvis had to move apart to create space for the baby to be born and now it needs time to go back to normal.
This can cause pain or discomfort.
And not to mention the small matter of a helpless tiny human being that needs 24 hour attention immediately.
When do you get to sleep off that exhausting labour?
In fact when do you get to have a full night's sleep again?
It’s a lot isn’t it?
It’s no wonder you’re struggling.
You don’t have to suffer.
Would you like to learn some tools to help you to cope with the fallout of giving birth?
I understand that you are busy
Looking after a small child is a full time job, often on top of a ‘real’ job.
So you’re looking for something that doesn’t take up too much time in your day, something that you can fit into a spare 10 or 15 minutes? Something that doesnt take too long to learn.
If this all resonates with you please get in touch for a quick chat and we can see if we can come up with a plan to empower you to move forward in your life.
