I am currently working with Yoga In Healthcare Alliance and the NHS to bring a series of free 10 week yoga courses to NHS patients across deprived areas of Manchester. We were initially funded by Sport England to deliver 7 courses at the beginning of 2025, and now have more funding from the Big Lottery fund to run some more.
I will be starting courses in Clayton, Harpurhey, Collyhurst and Fallowfield from the beginning of September 2025.
This is simple therapeutic, breath led yoga which can be done from a chair or on a yoga mat.
The results have so far been incredible. And the feedback, even from the first class has been amazing. Basic things like, being able to breathe into the bottom of your lungs for the first time in years.
It is such a privilege to deliver these courses and it's usually to people who would never normally be able to access yoga. People are referred in by their GP surgery, and the course is designed to cover 4 criteria of medical issues
these are:
Over the 10 weeks the simple practice is built up and different layers of breath and concentration are added each week. There are videos to practice along to at home and I regularly check in with people to see how they are getting along, so it's well supported to help people to make yoga a regular habit.
